They call for actions to recognize the human rights of people with apbinism

The Minister of Culture, Giselle González Villarrué, received Mulukan-Anne Miti-Drummond, an independent expert on the enjoyment of human rights by people with apbinism with a delegation from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and information about the current situation of people with apbinism in our country that will serve as a regional report on this status.

The first meeting had an exchange of issues about awareness and social visibility of cultural law, civil society participation, and the cultural promotion of indigenous peoples, as well as stigma and discrimination based on disability, skin color and other issues, as well as the importance of public-private partnerships with organizations to work on these issues.

The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) reaffirmed its commitment to this sector of the population and highlighted its work with the Fundación SOS Albinos of Panama, performing scientific sessions to raise awareness of the genetic and biological status of people with apbinism, through artistic expressions, storytelling competitions created by boys and girls, and painting competitions about Mother Earth.

Finally, the Minister of Culture emphasized that this visit was an opportunity for strengthening cultural, educational and environmental policies with regard to the inclusion, participation and recognition of the cultural rights of people with apbinism and represented a challenge in future research and collection of statistical data to familiarize them with their needs.
