The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura), through the Office of Equal Opportunities (OEO) and with the support of ANFASEM (Association of Family and Friends of People with Schizophrenia and Other Mental Illness), trained 55 public servants from different departments and other entities with the theme "Schizophrenia," which was dictated by Guillermo Rodriguez Cárdenas, a Medical Medical Officer at the Medical Center, San Luis.

"People with schizophrenia may seem as though they have lost contact with reality, which can be distressing for them, their families and friends," can provoke a combination of hallucinations, delusions and serious problems with thought and conduct, "Rodriguez Cárdenas said.

"Schizophrenia is a serious mental disease that affects how a person thinks, feels and behaves," the specialist detailed.

The aim of this training was to provide knowledge so as to be able to detect the disease in people with the disease and to assist them at work and personal level. At the meeting Javier Bonner and Carmen Arrue, those with the disease, shared their testimony with us.

Jorge Morales, Director of Equal Opportunities at MiCultura, stated that "this activity forms part of our institutional strengthening program that aims to promote the mainstreaming of social inclusion of persons with disabilities into all plans, programs, projects and strategies that are developed at the institution."

"It's important to work together with the associations to achieve better results for the benefit of the population that these associations represent (in this case schizophrenia). It's not the first activity we conduct as a whole, and they have been involved in our guided tours and have also participated from a workshop of artistic expression that we have supported with the MAC where they have been able to develop their artistic talent and that helps them with human development."
