The writer, Cheri Lewis, won with the work "La Torra and the Rabbit" the Carlos Francisco Changmarín 2023 National Children's and Youth Literature Competition, as well as the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura).

Lewis, under the pseudonym "Jaromiro" was the winner of 36 works that participated in this contest with writers Raisa Calderon, Abril Méndez and Leadimir González as his qualifying jury.

According to the Justices, "this book is narrated in a simple, creative and fantastic language and describes the relations of co-existence between two friends that, through his wit, mutual assistance, solidarity, friendship and hope are resolved in an intrpid and fun manner."

Cheri Lewis describes "that the book is a set of six stories that tells about the adventures of a bitch and a rabbit and that as every story develops, situations related to identity, time, memory, books and the value of friendship can be found, among other things."

"I hope this book will get them to get to know and care about these characters that they sure knew about their mothers and grandmothers. I hope they will serve to highlight the magic tradition of telling stories before they sleep," Lewis said.

For his part, Isabel Burgos, national director of The Arts at MiCultura invited all Panamanian writers from the different areas of literature to participate and to be encouraged, and to participate, not only in the contest but also in training workshops held at the Ministry as the Writer Training Program (PROFE), because that works for the professionalization of Panamanian writers.
