The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura), in partnership with the Ministry of Social Development (Mides) and with the support of local boards from Eastern Panama, Panama Centre and San Miguelito will conduct the program "The Way of Art and Culture for Older Adults" for a period of 6 months.
"The project has been linked with the goals of sustainable development (ODS) number 3 with reference to" health and well-being "and number 10 with" reducing "inequalities, for which art and culture will be used as tools that contribute to maintaining health at old age and to meeting the specific needs of this stage of the cycle of life," said Luz María Frías, cultural promoter of the Cultural Rights and Citizenship and program coordinator.
On this first day, members of an older person's program at the Junta Communal de Betania participate who visited the Juan Manuel Cedeño Gallery and had an opportunity to get to know the exhibition "To what does Portugal know?" by photographer Fabiola De Freitas, who in person explained every exposed image to them.
The "Rocha del Arte" followed at the Casa del Soldado with an exhibition "Picasso, even surprising" and the Casa del Retiro at the Arco Chato, where they were able to admire the number of works that won national literary competitions and other Panamanian productions.
That last visit was conducive to listening to the performances of Melanie Taylor, a writer, musicotapist and violinist who dedicated some themes to them as "Taste to me" and "The sigh of an ugly woman," which were to the delight of the participants.
"It's the first time, I didn't know that there was a gallery. These are the things that make your day filled with surprises. Panama has a lot to offer and I'm very happy because they also brought us to know the works of Picasso and the Writer's House," emphasized Lina by Howard, who participates in the Mayor's program of the Bahia Communal Board.
"The policies of care for older people have established that they have the right to have educational programs, participate in cultural life, have creative expressed themselves and have access to quality cultural goods and services," added Frías.
