About three thousand Panamanians among children, youth and adults enjoyed the five National Ballet performances with the National Symphony Orchestra (OSN) with the stage of the play "La Cuarachita Mandinga," at a show filled with color, dance and classical music free of charge at the National Theater.
Mau Navarro, Melissa Gaona, Yahyr Castro and Edgar Santamaria were the main characters, with a cast of thirty dancers who with their dexterity at dance and performance passed and gave life to this work of national literature written by Rogelio Sinan.
The work included a number of new and outstanding dressmakers from the National Ballet and creative choreographer under the artistic direction of Graciela Guillén, who had the vision of giving his life to his story with his teachers: María Elena Jiménez, Juan Carlos Costoya, Pilar Vega, José Villamil, Alexa Gutiérrez and Diguar Sapi, with the musical accompaniment of the 58 musicians of the OSN, under the direction of Ricardo Risco.
"To us, musicians play for opera and ballet, it's quite different from what we do as a symphony. The Chocarachita Mandinga, it's already part of our daily warming exercise, playing for the Ballet requires a lot of physical, mental and concentration above all," said Jorge Ledezma Bradley, director of the OSN.
The show included the collaboration of Damus Vásquez, who with his multifaceted voice had been charged with his narrative part by announcing to the public all events through his fictitious Radio Alacena.
Gloria Barrios, executive director of the National Ballet, stated that "the project we have been trying to achieve for a long time and that with these presentations we celebrate International Day of Dance and Writer Panamanian with honor to great teachers as, Gonzalo Brenes and Roque Cordero."
For this project we "did a great job as a team and that with the National Symphony Orchestra we worked greatly at an orchestral and dance level, to embellish and enrich the work, first presented in Panama professionally in 1976," Barrios added.
