"Las Hijas," a Panamanian film that won the Fondo Cine National Competition at the 2015 Ficción or Animation Longfilm category, organized by the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) will be released this week at two prestigious festivals in the United States and Europe.

The film work, written and directed by Costa Rican Panamanian Kattia G. Zúñiga, will be shown at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas, one of the most famous and influential in the world and simultaneously at the official competition of the Spanish Málaga Film Festival.

According to MiCultura's national film management, 14 feature films and 17 Panamanian documentaries have been shown at international festivals from 2013 to 2023.

"It's important for the Ministry of Culture that all Panamanian productions have an opportunity to use that display window that film festivals open to familiarize ourselves with our diversity and the work currently being undertaken in our country," stated Sheila González, film director of MiCultura.

He also reported that "Festivals are an instance for businesses and producers benefit from them as their films as well as being seen by the public at large are seen by other people such as critics, journalists, exhibitors, distributors and festival programmers."

The plot of the film "Las Hijas" is a brotherhood story starring Ariana Chaves Gavilan and Cala Rossel Campos, both at his Actoral debut and his story of Marina and Luna, who during his summer vacation travel from Costa Rica to Panama in search of his absent father.
