MiCultura brings music to all

With the motto "music for all," three assemblies formed by the section of wind instruments, electrical guitar and percussion, of the Panama National Network of Orchestra and Youth Chors (RNOCJP), of the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) was fully free of charge in different public spaces of Panama's town.

The musical activations that began at different metro stations such as San Miguelito, May 5, Market San Felipe Neri, aims to publicize the activities that MiCultura offers, to show the talent of children and youth that make up RNOcJP and to bring hundreds of passers with them to music and cultural activities, said Electra Castillo, program manager.

The youth who participated in this first tour were Flauta trio Gabriel Ramirez, Julio Sánchez and Ángel Berenguer, for the metal quartet: Jason Caicedo, Moses Reyes, Daniel Guadalupe and Luis Jiménez and the jazz, blues and Bossa nova group were formed by Ivan Medina, high saxophone, Jason Caicedo, thrombon and Ángel Guevara, percussion.

The musical stops were a delight to hundreds of passersby with a varied repertoire and included film and video themes with classical works, Panamanian music, jazz and nova mocha, a Brazilian musical genre.

For Jaison Caicedo with year and a half of his membership with the Orchestra Network, "this kind of experience in public spaces has been very good, let us know, prove that there are good musicians have helped me to grow and learn."

"To come into the online pandemic, I have been playing as a soloist at the National Theater with an orchestra and to feel applause is something beautiful that motivates me to continue to study and prepare myself." added the young musician.

These three musical performances in public spaces are the first to be organized by MiCultura and are expected to reach the different commercial centers of Panama City and the interiors of the country in the coming months.

The National Network of Youth Orquestas and Coros forms one of our ministry's flagship projects with the support of UNDP and in partnership with the Youth Ibero-orchestras program.

Currently, five thousand children and youth are part of this program and they have modules at David, Chiriquí, Changinola, Bocas del Toro, Santiago and La Peña, Veraguas, Chitre at Herrera, La Villa at Los Santos and Penonomé and Aguadulce at Coclé, La Chorro at Western Panama, San Miguelito, Chepo and Panama Metro at Panama and Alto de los Lagos at Colón and at Guna Yala.
