National Symphony Orchestra celebrates 79 years with music to Panamanian

Panama, May 27, 2020 -The Ministry of Culture celebrates 79 years of the National Symphony Orchestra (OSN) with a number of virtual activities that have been including from the performance of musical pieces by members of this prestigious musical group, interviews with his musicians and tribute sessions with composer Ludwig van Beethoven in commemoration of his 25th birthday.

On May 27, 1941, at the initiative of master Herbert de Castro and with the support of the National Government, the Symphony Orchestra was founded, a group with an important name that has shared with the national and international public masterful interpretations of great composers of classical music and of Panamanian composers.

The Minister of Culture, Carlos Aguilar Navarro, emphasized that "it's a matter of pride for Panama to have a National Symphony Orchestra as well as our own, especially at these difficult times, where they have put to value culture to accompany the human person, sharing interpretations made by their members from their homes, for the joy of Panamanian and Panamanian people."

The OSN has been directed by teachers Herbert De Castro, Walter Myers, Roque Cordero, Eduardo Charpentier De Castro and currently by Jorge Ledezma Bradley, under the administration of the National Section of the Arts of the Ministry of Culture.

In its nearly eight decades of success, the OSN has taken up the universal and Latin American symphony repertoire and especially that of great Panamanian musicians such as Eduardo Charpentier, Roque Cordero, Edgardo Quintero, Herbert de Castro, Ricardo Risco and other talented musicians, with a high name for Panama among the public who appreciates his executions.
