MiCultura Highlights That Teachers Know Copyright Theme

The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura), through the National Office of Copyright and the Regional Centre for the Promotion of the Book in Latin America and the Caribbean (CERLALC), gave more than 20 basic and secondary education teachers from the regions of Panama Centre, North, East, West and San Miguelito, the workshop seminar, "Imptimiento de Cretividad en el Aula," an activity undertaken from 22 to 25 August, at this ministry.

Eric Velasco, National Director of copyright expressed that "this training aims to promote knowledge about copyright among Panamanian teachers, with a view to building a society that respects intellectual property."

For his part, Fairy Forero, copyright manager for CERLALC emphasized "that as far as we are proud of our own cultural expressions we become bigger as a nation and these workshops are made to convey the importance of copyright, for as we recognize ourselves as authors we will respect ourselves more. We will have more empathy to understand why an intellectual creation has one form and not another."

The workshop outlined issues such as "originality," "the right of parenthood and integrity," "use of other people's ideas" and "the search for his own voice," "protection of creative universes," "multimedia and transmedia works," "information and literacy and" negotiation of copyright, "among others.

The National Copyright Office is attached to MiCultura and aims to disseminate public knowledge about copyright and related rights with a view to promoting respect for the creation and creators of its works as required by Act No. 64 of 10 October 2012 on copyright and related rights.
