MiCultura launches Crea project in Panama 2030

The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) launched the "Crea in Panama 2030" project, a technical assistance from the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) that will support the country in developing a participatory and transparent system of governance for culture.
Crea in Panama 2030 will be the National Creative Economy Programme for Sustainable Development, which aims to develop and implement regulatory frameworks for strengthening Panamanian creative and cultural industries with a sustainable development approach.
Under the framework of the United Nations World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, Culture Minister Carlos Aguilar Navarro explained that "Creates in Panama 2030" an opportunity to deepen the debate about short-, medium and long-term measures that will contribute to the sustainability of the creative and cultural industry sector over the next 10 years
"That initiative joins with efforts to advance the cultural and creative industries in the country, that have been supported by the Inter-American Development Bank (BID) among other institutions," remarked Aguilar Navarro.
The European Union (EU) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) select Panama, from 12 countries throughout the world, to develop and implement regulatory frameworks to strengthen its creative industries.
Both EU and UNESCO will adapt projects to reflect the impact of the COVID19 crisis and post-crisis reorganisation by offering tools and experience to recipient countries to undertake prompt actions and restructuring reforms. Together with Panama, the EU / UNESCO Steering Committee also adopted applications from Ethiopia, Jamaica, Namibia and Palestine that join with other seven countries that were adopted in 2019 and have already initiated activities (Costa Rica, Gabon, Georgia, Mexico, South Sudan, Uganda and Zimbabwe) as partners of these initiatives.
To launch this project, a panel with experts was organized to address the importance of the link between cultural policies, cultural diversity and the creative economy at the Covidn19 stage and to identify opportunities and challenges for the implementation of this program in Panama and to address current circumstances, among other issues of interest to boost creative industries after the impact of the current pandemic.
The event was attended by the Minister of Culture, Carlos Aguilar, Esther Kuisch Laroche, representative of UNESCO in Panama and Chris Leo Clark Hoornaert, Ambassador of the European to Panama.
The initiative was moderated by Lazaro I. Rodriguez, a member of the UNESCO and European Union Group of Experts for Cultural Governance. The event will be broadcast by Facebook and Youtube platforms at the Ministry of Culture.
The event forms part of the global movement of UNESCO called ResiliArt, a global movement of UNESCO that emerged in the context of the epidemic by Covid-19 to promote dialogue and to find responses to the impact on the cultural sector, especially its affections to people, joins with the efforts of this innovative program.
"Crea in Panama 2030 is a strategic bet for the country, as it allows to build a shared vision among all the institutions that put up with the creative economy and strengthens the responsibility of the Ministry of Culture, as in other countries to have tools to protect and promote the creative sectors that so much require them at this time of challenge, understanding that artists and creators of creative and cultural enterprises play a key role in the fight against inequality in our society," emphasized Minister Aguilar Navarro.
