MiCultura regrets the passing of educator, actress and writer Isis Tejeira

Panama, 19 May 2020The Ministry of Culture regrets the passing of the well-known Panamanian educator, actress and writer Isis Victoria Tejeira.

Born June 6, 1936, Tebeira began his professional life as a primary school teacher, Spanish teacher and drama art teacher at schools throughout the country, combining discipline with performance, since the 1960s.

In 1962, she received an actress's prize from the year of Panamanian theater review and an Anayansi prize in 1963 for her work at the theater. Tebeira commented that "every time a play ends I feel that I have come back to reality."

A professor and a graduate with Spanish skills from the University of Panama, Isis Tejeira remained very active in literary activity and participated in workshops about poetry, novel and modern and contemporary lyric and Panamanian, dictated by Professor Cedomil Goic at the University of Chile. He also studied at post-graduate level at the University of Panama.

He was a teacher at the University of Panama, as well as director and production of the maze theater group. At Méndez Pereira's house, he played an important role in creating the theater race at the Facultad de Bellas Artes.

Reknown writers and literary scholars have dedicated research aimed at disseminating his literary work. For their part, writers Ricardo A. Ríos and Pedro Correa have also studied his work.

Emma Gómez, currently an Intangible Heritage Coordinator at the Ministry of Culture, studied Isis Tebeira's novel without a fixed date. Her analysis of Tebeira's work was included as a prologue of the Cuban edition of this novel.

The poet Porfirio Salazar described Isis Tejeira as a "dream maker, friend, water and scene courage."

In literature, Tebeira was highlighted with his storybook The Impostor and Linda La Mar and Other Stories as well as with his novel No date.
