Museums as an inclusive agent at times of social emergency

Panama, 16 May 2020. The events that will be held by the Ministry of Culture to celebrate International Museums Day will include Monday, May 18, the event "Museums as an agent of Education and Inclusion at Social Emergency," and will be seen by the YouTube and Facebook living platforms from 9: 30 a.m..
Gabriel González, Deputy Minister of Culture, will lead Panelists Amanda Destro, president of the Panama Visitor's Museum and Center Network, Luz Bonadies, Executive Director of the Contemporary Art Museum and Anayansi Chichaco, National Director of Museums at MiCultura. Those who will discuss issues such as: the importance of museums as subjects of education and culture, development of common strategies for modernization and internalization of museums and museum work in Panama
Anayansi Chicpacho points out that museums are agents of education and inclusion, as through their collections they tell us stories, they move us to other cultures and old ages, they teach us the importance of our ancestors and their daily living, they show us the wealth of our material and immaterial heritage.
The Ministry of Culture currently offers tools for disabled people to enjoy them and have been adapted so that all people can have access to mymeography. Also, there are important dialogues within the museums that visualize the different ethnic groups that converge in our country, and that's also part of the strategies of inclusion and equality, Chichaca added.
The Ministry of Culture aims to discuss the importance of museums as subjects of education, inclusion and culture and to have better presence at our centers when they can be re-opened, that is, more visibility of our content, to develop common strategies for modernisation and internationalization of museums and to share experiences with the work of the museum at times of social emergency.
The Biomusus, Canal Museum, Mola Museum, Colonial Religious Art Museum, Freedom Museum and History Museum of Panama are some of the museums that have put in place tools for inclusion.
The event will be inclusive with the theme "Museums for equality: diversity and inclusion," and will have the characteristic of a sign-tongue interpreter for the deaf community to participate and interacted with panelists.
