Following with the tours to monuments and locations currently undergoing restoration and construction, the Ministry of Culture brought a group of social communicators to know about the work process at the Royal Customs of Portobelo that takes about 50% progress.
Anayansi Chicpacho, national director of museums at MiCultura, Marixa Lasso, director of the Center for Anthropological and Cultural Research (CIHAC AIP) and the architects Eustorgio Márquez of Cultural Heritage and Joel Coras, from the Inter-American Development Bank (BID) were responsible for providing information about the different spaces and rooms with which this monumental collection will feature.
According to architect Joel Coras, "for this project 80% of the labor force are colonians and more than 70% belong to Portobelo, so it has been an accomplishment to be able to involve the community."
The restoration work began in October 2020 with an estimated cost of about $3.7 million with a 30-month construction deadline and an estimated first quarter of 2023.
The project aims at recovering the building and installing the museum inside the building.
