Religion and Art merge into "Expo Madera"

Religious art is a sign of the interplay between religion and art that illustrates the divine and his beliefs and as a result "Expo Madera" emerges, a sample of 20 works that can be visited up to May 18 at the Museum of Colonial Religious Art (MARC) at San Felipe.

The exhibition is a window to publicize the work of 15 artisan from the community of Coclesito, Omar Torrijos Herrera District in the province of Colón, who after several months of workshops united to show the results.

"Expo Madera" forms part of the actions established by the convention of cultural cooperation between the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) and the Municipality of Omar Torrijos Herrera (OTH), which lays down the promotion and accompaniment in the development of different cultural and entrepreneurial expressions of this colonial district.

"The Coclesito Wooden Expo 2022 (Religious art) It's a vivid example of carving art. It's the work of artists from the Omar Torrijos Herrera District at Coclesito that for the first time they exhibit their talent outside their place, "emphasized the vice ministers of culture, Gabriel González at the opening ceremony.

Eduardo Cano, Director of Education and Culture of the Municipality of OTH emphasized that with this type of exhibitions "we aim to promote the carving of wood as an element of the inventory of the intangible heritage as well as to show what Coclesito has to offer to the country."

That artistic and artisan display of religious art also contains jobs by people with disabilities for whom art has been a form of resistance at these bad times.

"We congratulate the local authorities of Coclesito, the organizers, those who have been managing the idea and especially the artisan who today give us this sign of true talent and love for our rejoicing," added the Vice-Minister of Culture during his intervention.

The Museo de Arte Religioso Colonial (Museo de Arte Religious Colonial) is located at 3camino del Casco Antiguo next to the Convent Santo Domingo (Arco Chato) and will be from 10 a.m. to 6: 00 p.m. from Tuesday to Sunday and entrance is free.
