The National Government, through the Ministry of Culture, awarded a scroll of recognition to nine artisan and artisan in different categories as part of the fair program to Celebrate the Day of the Artisan, an activity that was held on Saturday March 19 at Altagplaza Mall.
The recognition was given to Migdalia Mojica Woo as a pottery and ceramics category, Alexander Rodriguez as a General Fibra, Casilda Serrano as a Textiles and Ricardo Tejada as a Cueros.
They also received this distinction, Sonia Rodriguez, in Consumer Crafts, Dorothea McGrinson, at Jewelry and Beetries, Ana Moreno, at Manualities, Ulyses Urrutia, Plastic arts and Edward Allen Johnson Haynes at Mask.
Migdalia Wood, graphic designer and designer of ceramic products mentioned "I'm very grateful with this recognition. Upon receiving the news came to mind a retrospective of the work that I have passionately did for a little more than 20 years.
It's gratifying to know that the craft pieces I have built are in many households of the world, represent our culture and are a little bit of Panama. "
Also, as part of the celebration, parchment and bronze pits with a 24-carat gold bath were given to the artisan with his work to preserve and transmit the traditions and culture of our country.
During the event to celebrate the Day of the Artisan there were folk and artistic performances from different ethnic groups as well as drums by the musicians of the set Alegrías Panameñas, tentimas, as well as an exhibition and sale of crafts by 18 artisan from different areas of the country.
That date, 19 March, dedicated to artisan was established by Act 11 of 22 February 2011 and was held with artisan from different parts of the country.
