Legado de Changmarín is remembered 100 years after his natal

To commemorate the centennial of Carlos Francisco Changmarín, the people of Veraguas pay a well-deserved tribute to a son of his land with the development of a monument to his legacy's memory.

MiCultura as part of the agreement with the Carlos Francisco Changmarín Foundation contributes to enaltecer this illustrious figure that put up the name of Panama and that put significant inputs into the arts and politics, including with the place of a plaque that illustrates one of its most outstanding poems, "I want to sow a corn."

The event that was organized by the Mayor's Office of the Santiago District that also contributed to the adequacy of space and to some elements for its display at Juan Demostenes Arosemena Park, Santiago, province of Veraguas.

"Today, a hundred years after his birth, we pay tribute to his life, as an inspiring example as an educator, writer, painter, musician and journalist. A full and multifaceted life. An old soul that advanced art, social justice and education," said his deputy ministers of culture, Gabriel González, during his intervention.

"Since, we have been recouped by the Ministry of Culture with the National Prize for Children and Youth Literature, Carlos Francisco Changmarín of tale and poetry, with which the literary production of national authors who write for children is promoted and stimulated as a space to enhance the work of writers of the child literature genre," added Gabriel González.

The monument was designed by the architect Lia Méndez Changmarín, built with elements of nature projecting beauty and simplicity. It has 4 very significant elements, the granite stele that goes to heaven, symbolizes his firm and indomitable spirit about which a fragment of one of his great literary samples "I want to sow a corn."

The purified rock from the Anon quarry of the community of Canto del Llano is an unbreakable basal core with incrustrations of malachite, calcite, marmolin and copper that give them a greenish tone, symbolizes the enduring, impercedary, unity and strength, and the life, work and hope of master Changmarín.

The path of stones is the third element that binds earlier with rolling stones of the Gatú River that symbolize the long and difficult paths that have been travelled, and that have been always cheerful and optimistic and convinced of their struggles without losing sight of the north and its essence and love of the homeland.

For its part, gardening symbolizes its profound roots as a nature, and they are present in its works as well as its concern for its conservation.

Meanwhile, Abril Changmarín Romero, daughter of the honorary and representative of the Foundation with his name, expressed his satisfaction with the support received by MiCultura in all activities related to this centennial as was the gala held at the National Theater, the works published and published, and the opening of the monument among other events scheduled.

The conduct ceremony was complemented by cultural presentations as the decline of the tale "The Dancing of Butterflies" by the young Marielena del Carmen González, María Marin, who performed the tenth "I want to sow a corn."

Additional at the park's grounds, a literary and artisan fair will be held at the weekend where apart from exhibiting the works of Changmarín, workshops of crafts, tells tales and artistic performances, making the celebration an entertainment activity, didactic for visitors.

With the development of this emblem that immortalizes Changmarín's path and his literary contest in his name, MiCultura once again honors his honor and contributes to highlighting the memory of those Panamanian people who have put prints on his isthmus and beyond.

The event was attended by local authorities, directors of university entities and representatives of several associations from the province, who highlighted the life and work of this multidimensional gentleman.
