MiCultura RECOGNITES INTO THE CONSUEGRA FACTOR CREATING MURG IN PANAMA

The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) will pay tribute to Manuel Consuegra Gómez at the Belisario Porra de Las Tablas Museum on February 22, 2012.

Through this tribute, MiCultura will recognize and exalt the musical work of the Consuegra professor whom he defines as an "insignia representative of our culture and his meaningful work as a pillar for the integral training of music professionals."

That event will be held as part of an artistic exhibition "Decada de una Carnaval Tableño" and will highlight the path of Consuegra Gómez for his contributions that will be "as a reference of national identity and culture."

Professor Manuel Consuegra Gómez was born at the Villa de Los Santos in 1942 and while studied mechanics at the Colegio Artes and Opaños, he also shown his inclination for music and his free times attended the National Conservatory where he was taught by Roque Cordero (QEDD).

After generating musical themes with typical rhythms, the Consuegra teacher created in 1952 the "murga" at the carnival of Las Tablas and reached national and international recognition with the famed theme "The Murga of Panama" by Héctor Lavoe and Willy Colón.
He was the creator and director of the "Murga de Consuegra," his musical group leading up to 1996 and his trajectory alternates with national and international artists such as Celia Cruz and Oscar De León.

Meanwhile, on February 23, as part of a Conversatory called "Tableño Carnival: A History To Count," a recognition will also be made of the folloclist Juan Vega, regarded as a murguer of tradition.
