MiCultura and human rights challenges challenges challenges

With the support of the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) and the Office of the Ombudsman, the Panamanian Association for the Comprehensive Development of Social Communications (APADICOS) gave its awards Thursday to the journalists who won the national press and human rights contest, in commemoration of the nataletio of sociologist and professor Raúl Leis and that were published between January and November 2021.

The winning journalists were at Digital Media, Yannisse Vergara with the work: "The prints of pain left by Diethylenglycol at Maybeth Coronado," published at TVN Media, while in print, the winner was Marlene Testa of the Star of Panama with the work "Cross the jungle of Darién: A survival journey.

On television, the winner was Raúl López Aranda with production "Human Rights at Covio's time broadcast at Telemeter Report and at Prensa Radial, the prize was awarded to Linda Aparicio with his work" The Tapon of Darién, The Migratory Route between Danger and Human Law, "published on RPC Radio.

At an event of reward, representing the Ministry of Culture, Secretary General José Ismael Herrera expressed that the institution believes "in the work that APADICOS does, for the promotion and consolidation of the integral development of the Social Communicators of Panama, but above all in their vision to leave a legacy to new generations."

He felt that this model of excellence that should transcend time with Social Journalists and Communicators that are a reference not only with his pen but with his rectitionality and verticality in his professional principles, based on information ethics, respect for his source, objectivity and truth.

At the event, the president of APADICOS, Toribio Díaz and the Ombudsman, Eduardo Leblanc expressed the importance of the media in ensuring respect for the human rights of individuals and to continue to highlight this type of contest with a view to strengthening the principle of equality among all members of society.
