International Forum of Spanish American Independencies signaled a trend from Panama

The Minister of Culture, Carlos Aguilar Navarro closed the International Forum of Spanish American Independence, at which for three days leading national and international historians shared their research about the period and events related to Panama's 200 years of independence from Spain.
The incumbent of Culture expressed his gratitude to the speakers and moderators of this Forum as well as to the organizers of the Association of Public Interests, the "Center for Historical, Anthropological and Cultural Research," this initiative, "that in his view contributes to the formation of a vision about the triumphs, achievements and above all, challenges that have been faced with the consolidation of the movements of separation from Spanish colonies.
"It has been an honor and a privilege for the national government, through the Ministry of Culture to have had an opportunity to bring together in an equal space, face to face and virtual the most outstanding specialists in the history of the independence of our Spanish America," said Minister Aguilar Navarro.
The Forum brought together prestigious researchers from different nationalities who are at the forefront of scientific historic research, rescuing not only the facts and data of independence but explaining from different perspectives these historic processes as well as their generalities and peculiarities, she added.
The challenges of "Indigenous and Independence Groups," "Women and Independence," "Latin American Afro-Americans and Independence," "A new look at the construction of the Republic and the Formation of the State," and "Bicentennial: Nation, heterogeneity and democracy," among others, were discussed at the Forum.
The Panamanian speakers included Alfredo Castillero Calvo, Luis Navas, Guillermina De Gracia, Omar Jaén Suárez, Tomas Mendizábal Marixa Lasso, Francisco Herrera, Yolanda Marco, Melva Goodin, Miriam Miranda, Beatriz Rovira, Félix Chirú, Alina Torrero, Carlos Arenas, Salvador Sánchez and Fernando Aparicio.
The international lecturers included Alejandra Boza Villarreal from Costa Rica, Alfredo Ávila and Erika Pani from Mexico and Alfonso Munera, among others.
The meeting was organized by the National Commission of the Bicentennial of the Independence of Panama of Spain chaired by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with CIHAC and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
