The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) advanced with the opening of Colmena Reading Centres and at this time was established in the community of Akua Yala, head of the Madugandi region at the banks of Lake Bayano.

The deputy minister of MiCultura, Gabriel González, presided at the opening ceremony with the presence of the caciques and Sahilas of the region that was adorned with the presence of the representative of Panama for Miss World 2021, Kristel Barreto who has been appointed as an ambassador of Tourism and Culture.

González called on children, youth and adolescents to make use of these books, which are also winners of literary competitions organized by the Ministry. The reading, added the deputy minister, gives children an opportunity to educate and at the same time to train in writing.

The high-level official of MiCultura called for children to read these books because through his knowledge, they can become writers of the country and perhaps also to be winners of competitions organized by the cultural entity.

Meanwhile, Miss Panama for Miss World 2021, Kristel Barreto noted that through the Foundation that presides "Comarcas para el Mundo" she seeks to exalt indigenous culture and seek opportunities for children through education.

He added that through the books being donated at these reading centers it's a call to emphasize that "education is the most powerful weapon we have to change the world and it's a true passport to freedom."

It was up to the cacique Fidel Diaz to thank the Ministry of Culture and the National Government for the opening of this reading centre and to note that it will give children from the region an opportunity to get to know about other cultures as well as information through the writers of the works received.

With the establishment of a reading centre at Akua Yala community, the Ministry of Culture has already established 117 of the 300 currently scheduled to be opened at national level and a total of 9 reading mediators have been trained.
