MiCultura recognizes indigenous contribution to safeguard Cultural Heritage

At the end of its activities to celebrate the "Month of Indigenous Peoples" the Ministry of Culture recognized leaders, artists and cultural managers and distinguished representatives of Aboriginal peoples for their legacy and contribution to the safeguard of the nation's cultural heritage.

Through an activity called "Mother Earth" the incumbent Aguilar Navarro emphasized that the work of indigenous peoples contributes to the sustainable development of their peers and their cultural and linguistic expressions.

The head of the cultural portfolio clarified that the activity that marked the "closure of the month is not the end of an activity but just the beginning of concrete projects that safeguard the cultural and natural heritage of indigenous areas and languages as bearers of their whole culture."

"The governance plan as well as the aims and structure of this ministry are united with the challenge of extending an international day to an international day for an indigenous peoples, and with this we seek reflection, analysis of cultural celebrations, knowledge and projects that will help us understand the true meaning of interculturality," emphasized Aguilar Navarro.

At the event, recognition was given to three community leaders as they are: Atilio Martínez, David Binns Sori and Welcome Cunampio, for the legacy of parents, grandparents and ancestors who have worked for their languages.

In the category Mother Earth 2021, Aiban Wagua, Cleto Montero, Association of Women's United of Bonyic OMOB, Cyril Cerrud, Deici Guainora, Doris Cheocarama and Melquiades Santos were recognized as models of safeguard and commitment to each of their countries.

A diploma of Solidarity 2021 was also awarded to 20 groups or axes of generations to whom through their association capacity they work for their sustainable environment of their peers.

Emma Gomez, head of the Cultural Heritage leadership at MiCultura, expressed his support for this celebration to continue to be organized years after years, because in the decade of 10-year indigenous languages "we have to have immediate aims in the medium and long term so that languages and their culture are rewarded to the indigenous peoples of Panama because they have a right to their culture for their respect for their cultural heritage."

The program of closure organized by the Cultural Heritage and Cultural Rights and Citizenship of the Ministry of Culture included a presentation of collective theater that referred to as "Blue Pursuit" by officials of the Ministry, with an interpretation of singing to nature and also the production of diplomas.
