The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura), as part of its management to strengthen the cinematographic and audiovisual sector, announced that as of September 27, 2015, the call for a Fondo Cine 2021 National Competition will be open and interested parties will be able to propose their projects.
The competition supports production at different stages and all projects they apply have to meet a number of required requirements at the basis of the competition.
Jury will select according to merit by evaluating the script, production team experience and budget truthfulness, among other things, emphasized Sheila González, DICINE director of MiCultura.
Those interested in participating will be able to download the bases of the Fondo Cine National Competition (DICINE.gob.pa) from the date of publication of the call notice and proposals to be submitted to the General Directorate of the Cinematographic and Audiovisual Industry (DICINE) at concursocine @ MiCultura.gob.pa from 8: 00 a.m. September 27 from 8: 00 a.m. to 4: 00 p.m. October 27, 2021.
Carlos Aguilar Navarro, Minister of Culture, stated that the law that established the Fondo Cine has been respected, as "we have been performing this contest every year despite the difficulties of the pandemic."
He explained that during the years 2019, 2020 and at the beginning of 2021, DICINE has given Panamanian filmmakers more than 4,289,000 (4 million two hundred and eighty-nine thousand balboas) to support the production of films and documentaries by Panamanian people.
For this call, four categories will be awarded and $2.2 million will be distributed to the first three locations of each category, so that there will be twelve projects that will get the funds.
A total of $1.8 million will be awarded in the feature film category and will be distributed among the best three proposals for fiction or animation and the minimum sum to be given to each project will be about four hundred thousand B / 400 million pat.
At the same time, an amount of $300 million has been dedicated to the documentary category and each project receives an amount of B / 100,000.00 and 3 awards amounting to $15.000.00 each will be awarded for the development of feature and documentary script projects.
While there will also be three awards for feature projects and after production documentaries, with a total of 25 thousand dollars to each winner.
Justices with a responsibility to choose winners are international filmmakers with an established track record and their identities have been held secret up to the time of deliberation.
The Jury's decision will be unappealed and if some of the awards have been declared desert, this amount will be put to the bottom for the development of initiatives that will help to boost the film and audiovisual sector.
