Panama will have a City for the Arts

One of the most important projects undertaken by the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) for the enrichment of culture and artistic education and for the sustainable development of Panama is the City of the Arts (CDLA).

The project had been established with only 30% advance and currently with an architectural and physical advance of 67.5%.

That work that began in 2013 was charged with an amount of B / .54,527,345,00 million balboas, without including furniture and equipment and includes a total of 30 thousand square metres of construction, of which 22 thousand are of closed area and 8 thousand are open.

The hundreds of buildings that make up this town will be home to the National Symphony Orchestra and the National Ballet, and will also run the schools of Theater, Dance, Plastic Arts and the National Institute of Music and will have a cafeteria, exhibition rooms, library and a multifunctional theater and will host the headquarters of the Spanish Writer and Writer's Circle.

That set of cultural buildings will be connected with each other with a common square area, and will be immersed in a natural landscape, according to the entity that will conduct the project.

These spaces, adds the source, will give way to the development of training, educational, exhibition and collective activities.

One of the most interesting spaces of this great cultural complex, that will be situated in the centre of Panama City, next to the Metropolitan Natural Park, very close to the Albrook terminal and the Metro station of Panama, will have an attractive Multifunctional Theater with a capacity for 400 people, which will be the epicentre where all performing arts will converge.

The architecture has very interesting features among them, the dance building was designed with more heights and pits than the other buildings to accommodate the movements and leaps typical of this discipline, and suitable floors and mirrors have been contemplated.

On the other hand, the Fine Arts has a special elevator for the transport of pictorial and sculptural works.

The music rooms will also have special walls with acoustic treatment, enabling them to isolate and attenuate sound and achieve sound quality for the musicians.

The works are scheduled to complete in the summer of 2022, to directly benefit about 20,000 people and indirectly more than 250,000 people a year. It's estimated that about 5,000 young people will be part of the educational family once the CDLA has been opened.
