Panama, July 17, 2026. - The Minister of Culture, María Eugenia Herrera, with a specialized technical team from the institution, conducted an exhaustive monitoring tour to evaluate the progress of the restoration works that are performed at the iconic Plaza de France and at Punta Chiriquí.

During the day, with the participation of the contractors of the work, detailed examination was made of the interactions that are undertaken both internally and externally at the colonial wall. From the area of the beach, the authorities have been able to note the progress with the work of replacement of the upper layers of concrete of the structure.

The technical equipment explained the specifications of the materials used, which strictly comply with the restoration regulations and have fast fracking properties, an indispensable feature due to constant impact by rising tidal.

The tour covered all points included in the recovery project, which includes metal restoration, obelisk and its rooster as well as new formulation and relocation of historic busts within public space. The materials that will be used in the hemicycle's arcade, a space that tells the history of Panama's isthmus as a transit area and culminates with the construction of the Canal, were also revised.

The institutional commission also visited the vaults, including the area where currently the metal restoration workshop operates. At this place we checked the status of the busts that have been temporarily removed for their proper treatment.

Finally, they visited the upper area where the findings from above have been reviewed and the planned infrastructure works have been evaluated for the square, including the adequacy of the system of drains, electrical installations and an integral reformulation of space.

Minister Herrera emphasized the importance of conserving the original status of as many elements as possible, instructing the team to closely verify each component to ensure a true restoration to the historic heritage.

He was accompanied by Minister Herrera, Gabriel Diez, representative of the company Aprocosa (project contractors), Ricardo Gago and Fray Javier Mañas of the Casco Antiguo's Friends's Committee, Amber Zambrano, Director of the Casco Antiguo's Office and the architects responsible for the project by the ministry.
