Retirement for Old Panama's artisans

Panama January 20, 2026. At the Centro Artesanal of Panama Viejo began the first stage of the work of removal, profound cleanliness both outside and inside with the support of the Ministry of Government through the program "Plan Libertad."

The work will be undertaken from 19 to 28 January 2026 with the aim of renewing the image of the site and offering visitors, tourists and citizens a more attractive and dignified space.

That intervention forms part of a joint effort aimed at strengthening this cultural and commercial point, bringing together more than 30 Panamanian artisans, who display and market their products at the place.

Vice-Minister of Culture, Arianne Benedetti, stated that more remains to be done and that the Ministry of Culture will continue to manage improvements to restore this key point for the creative economy and cultural tourism.

With these actions, the Ministry of Culture remains interested in bringing cultural spaces to light, strengthening artisan activity and improving the experience of both artisan and public visiting Panama Viejo, Benedetti added.

The National Director of Handicrafts, Dhavinia de Mares, emphasized that this initiative represents the fulfilment of institutional commitment with the artisan sector, "We are meeting part of our commitment, that we are embellish and start the intervention of painting and cleanliness to offer better space, worthy and decent, to each of the artisan who work here."

The first phase includes internal and external cleaning, waste collection and painting applications in different areas of the Centre.
