INITIFY THE DEMOBILITION FASE IN A DIRECT INMOBILITION PROJECT IN Colón

The Ministry of Culture, through the National Cultural Heritage Section (DNPC) and the Office of the historic centre of the town of Colón (OCHCCO), informs the public about the start of the demolition phase of the project to rehabilitate the properties located at 2480 and 2580 farms, at the Central Avenue of the historic centre of the town of Colón.

That procedure includes the technical demolition of two facades and has all the approvals and permits required by the current regulations, supported by information from suitable professionals attesting that the facades are not recoverable. Based on these studies, DNPC authorized the demolition and subsequent reconstruction in accordance with the approved plans for the complete rehabilitation of the property.

Although this project went through an extensive process of technical review and rectifying, its progress shows that when a preliminary draft was properly handled, with respect to property and urban guidelines, it can be implemented with an orderly and responsible conduct.

For the Office of the historic centre of Colón, this milestone represents an example of how a preliminary project meets all established phases and moves to a phase of physical intervention, in the responsible conservation of the heritage and in the commitment to the urban revitalization of the historic centre.

That building, which originally proposed restoration of façade and inner adequacy, was re-evaluated as it was found that the façade was not structurally feasible. That allowed to develop and approve a new scheme that includes faithful reconstruction of the façade according to authorized plans.

Once refurbished, this building will contribute to the economic recovery of the area by generating jobs, enabling commercial activity and promoting the urban environment of the historic centre of Colón.
