Ministerio de Cultura and Municipality of Aguadulce join forces to rescue and value their historic and cultural heritage

Panama August 21, 2025. The National Cultural Heritage Directorate of the Ministry of Culture, headed by Samileth Stanziola, undertook an official visit to the Municipal Council of Aguadulce, at the invitation of Mayor Cristian Eccles, the full of the Council and local leaders, with a view to strengthening actions to preserve, restore and promote the historic heritage of the district.
During the Courtesy Session, Director Stanziola reaffirmed the institutional commitment to work with the mayor, the eight municipal representatives, AMUPA and other local actors to address concerns and advance projects that highlight the historic, cultural and social value of Aguadulce.
Among the initiatives put forward by the Ministry of Culture are the restoration of the Church of Carmen and the Church of St. John of God, whose plans have been approved and are currently at the stage of production of terms of reference for tender as well as the development of the People's House.
The Director of Cultural Heritage also emphasized the importance of inventing cultural events in the region, a process that promotes cultural tourism and dynamizes the local economy. The Marañón Festivalandl Tamarindo Festivaland with the safeguard of saline traditions, elements of great historic and cultural value to the identity of Aguadulce.
Following the meeting, local authorities and the Cultural Heritage team conducted a tour of sites protected under the Historical Heritage Act, evaluating potential strategies for their restoration. These spaces, considered true architectural jewelry, reflect the historic wealth of the district and its potential as an engine of economic and social development.
The Ministry of Culture reaffirms that cultural heritage is a living resource that belongs to the whole community and that its preservation requires the sum of will. With well structured projects, technical accompaniment and the active participation of the public, Aguadulce can be established as a reference for cultural conservation and promotion in the country.
