Panama, August 9, 2025. A literary colloquium with international writers was the stage for the Minister of Culture, María Eugenia Herrera, to give the "Butterfly of Peace" medal to Costa Rican writer Ingrid Ávalos Barquero, to the ambassador of Costa Rica to Panama, Bernardina Varga García.

Minister Herrera commented that today we celebrate recognition of an admirable literary path and also the cultural legacy that Ingrid has sown with sensitivities, commitment and vision in Costa Rica and Central America.

"His written word has been a bridge between memories and voices and hopes. With every page, Ingrid has been contributing to the construction of a more rich, more conscious and more human regional identity," she concluded.

The "Butterfly Medal of Peace" is a recognition given by the Federation of Women Journalists and Public Relations of Panama (FEMUPERP) and other entities to women and organizations that stand out for their commitment to gender equity, women's empowerment and the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

That recognition aims to highlight the transformative leadership of women and their impact on society and is a symbol of recognition and support for women's leadership and gender equity in Panama.

At the event, they accompanied Minister Herrera, FEMUPERP members, Digital Literary Cities and the Association of Writers from Central America and the Caribbean.

Ingrid Ávalos is a Costa Rican writer with two works published to 2020 and one of them is "Historias NeverCountadas," a historic novel about the Duran Sanatorio, based on real events. A novel about different forms of aggression and how to overcome them includes true testimonies.

He has commented that his goal "is to serve as inspiration and motivation with each of my books. To offer the reader an opportunity to see with other eyes spots and moments that seem to us ordinary in some way."
