The Ministry of Culture through the Cultural Rights and Citizenship Section conducted a work tour in the Los Santos region with the aim of meeting the needs of the community and initiating planning of community cultural projects as well as improvements to cultural infrastructure.

Katherine Bucktron, National Director of Cultural Rights and Citizenship, met with local authorities from Las Tablas, La Villa, La Palma and Tonosí to strengthen institutional collaboration and coordinate initiatives that promote citizen participation, access to cultural rights and the preservation of local heritage.

In the town of Las Tablas, the MiCultura team visited the Carlos López Laureano Public Library to evaluate its infrastructure and programs. During the meeting, Mayor Noé Herrera shared his vision about the cultural development of the district, highlighting opportunities to strengthen access to culture.

During his visit to La Villa de Los Santos, the process of modernizing the Public Library Héctor Conte was discussed and his role was emphasized with a view to promoting the knowledge and cultural identity of the community.

At the Corridor of La Palma, they explored the possibilities of development of the cultural house, with an emphasis on the support necessary to strengthen its activities. At Tonosí, they discussed the restoration of the House of Culture and the importance of saving unique traditional expressions of the district, such as its dances, attiduas and popular clothing.

The Ministry of Culture works to decentralise cultural activities, revitalize heritage and work with communities to strengthen access to culture throughout the country.
