Panama Begins the Restoration of the Chat Arch at Casco Antiguo

Panama, April 21, 2025. - At 8 a.m., the Ministry of Government and the Ministry of Culture signed an agreement to start the restoration work of the Chat Arco, located in historic Casco Antiguo. The project aims at revitalizing one of the most iconic architecture symbols of the city while involving the population deprived of their liberty.

The signing of the convention was attended by Dinoska Montalvo, Minister of Government and María Eugenia Herrera, Minister of Culture, who expressed the importance of this initiative not only for the conservation of national heritage but also for the social reintegration of people who will be working with the project.

"That convention represents a valuable opportunity for our deprivation of liberty to learn new skills and to contribute actively to the preservation of our history," stated Minister Montalvo at the event.

For her part, Minister Herrera emphasized the value of the Chat Arco as a cultural legacy that deserves to be safeguarded for future generations. "The restoration of this iconic monument is a significant step towards our heritage and social inclusion," she stated.

The project aims not only at recovering the Chat Arco but also at promoting an effective rehabilitation approach through training and participation of inmates, and this is vital to their reintegration into society.

With this sign, Panama advances with its cultural heritage and offers a second opportunity to those currently undergoing re-insertion into the community.
