MiCultura reaffirms its commitment to rescue and strengthen museums at national level

Panama, April 11, 2025 - In the framework of the commemoration of International Museum Day, held on May 18, the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) held a national meeting with heads and museum officials under his administration and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening, modernizing and conserving the Panamanian cultural heritage.

The day, held in the City of the Arts, allowed the museum representatives to share experiences, coordinate activities for the month of May - including exhibitions, mural, guided tours, cultural talks and presentations - and participate in a series of training sessions about maintenance, cleanliness and security of museum pieces.

During the event, the Association of Conservators and Refiners of Panama offered valuable workshops about care and preservation of objects and collections, and emphasized the importance of protecting tangible heritage as a basis for collective memory of the country.

The National Network of Museums was also involved and strategic alliances and joint projects have been strengthened. The Office of Equal Opportunities of the Ministry submitted the new Accessibility Manual, and emphasized the need for all museums to ensure that persons with disabilities have been included and have fair access and that these spaces have been recognized as guardians of national identity and history.

The Office of Technology and Information Technology was also present and committed to modernizing the digital infrastructures of museums through the implementation of WiFi networks, up-to-date equipment and technological systems that drive more efficient and accessible management.

Raúl Castro, National Director of Museums, emphasized: "It's a commitment of the National Government to revitalize our museums, to support those who run them and to recognize them as guardians of our nation's heritage and history. Thanks to his work, future generations will be able to continue to connect with his cultural identity."
