Panama, February 10, 2025. The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) of Panama welcomes important advances with its goal of enlisting the Transitory Colonial Route as the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage List.

Following the submission of the responses required by the World Heritage Committee, his country had complied with all the recommendations requested, demonstrating its commitment to the preservation and appraisal of this important historic legacy.

The report was run by MiCultura last January 31 with the support of the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP), the Ministry of Environment (MiAmbiente) and representatives of local communities and the tourism sector. That joint effort attests to the national priority to protect and promote the cultural and historic wealth of the route.

Highlights have been the inclusion of the TransStmal Colonial Route in the ATP's 2025-2030 Five-Year Plan as a strategic tourist destination.

It was also announced that, in the first quarter of 2025, the ATP will launch an invitation to tender for the development of the Comprehensive Interpretation Plan of the Colonial Route, facilitating better management and promotion of this valuable cultural resource.

The next assessment of the World Heritage Committee will be held at Sofia, Bulgaria, from 6 to 16 July 2025, as part of its forty-seventh meeting.

The Ministry of Culture will continue to work jointly with local communities and competent authorities to ensure that the historic and archaeological elements that form this iconic path are protected and safeguarded.

The registration of the Transitory Colonial Route on the World Heritage List will not only mean international recognition but will also represent a great opportunity for the economic and cultural development of the surrounding communities, who will play a key role in this project.
