Strategic Alliance between the Ministry of Culture and the Office of the Ombudsman to strengthen Cultural Rights

The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) and the Ombudsman's Office are working to consolidate an agreement that will serve as a framework for their collaboration with the development of the National Cultures Plan (PNC).

That agreement aims at establishing a strategic partnership that will allow the promotion and protection of cultural rights as an integral part of human rights.

At a recent meeting, Katherine Bucktron, National Director of Cultural Rights at the Ministry of Culture, met with Carolina García, Secretary General of the Office of the Ombudsman, Julio De Gracia, Director of Human Rights Protection and Bolívar Rodriguez, National Director of Environmental Affairs.

At the meeting, the crucial role that the Office of the Ombudsman will play in identifying the needs of communities through citizen consultations was addressed, an essential process to ensure inclusion and representation in the PNC.

The importance of training the Office's staff with regard to cultural rights at the national level was also emphasized.

The initiative aims at strengthening institutional capacities to effectively address challenges related to the promotion and protection of these rights.

"That collaboration will not only help to identify and address the needs of communities but also to promote better understanding and respect for our cultural diversity," stated Katherine Bucktron, National Director of Cultural Rights and Citizenship.

MiCultura and the Office of the Ombudsman reiterate their commitment to work together for the cultural well-being of all communities.
