Culture, Protagonist of Sustainable Development: Regional Consultation for MONDIACULT 2025

The Minister of Culture, María Eugenia Herrera, represented our country at the UNESCO Regional Consultation on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development, in preparation for MONDIACULT 2025.

During his intervention, Herrera emphasized "that the National Plan for Cultures (PNC), designed to guide the development of the country from 2026 with a projection of seven years, will be a transformative tool to make culture an accessible public good for all. He expressed his appreciation for the technical accompaniment of the UNESCO, key to implementing this ambitious project."

For his part, Katherine Bucktron, National Director of Cultural Rights and Citizenship at the Ministry of Culture, had been an active participant in the discussions.

In his speech, he emphasized the need to include culture as the 18 Sustainable Development Goal (ODS), stating that: "Culture is not an accessory to development and its backbone. It intersects our identities, traditions and values and is, in essence, the most powerful tool for social and community transformation."

That recognition consolidates culture as a key factor for building more inclusive, sustainable and cohesive societies.

The regional consultations leading up to the conference had been designed to highlight the relevance of MONDIACULT 2025 and the 6 priority areas for progress in cultural policies and sustainable development.

With this step, MONDIACULT 2025 will strengthen the global commitment to place culture at the centre of sustainable development strategies and lay the foundations for a more equitable and diverse future.
