The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura), through the National Cultural Heritage Directorate and the Public Relations Office, held the day "Culture, Communication and Heritage: Connecting Hearings for the Preservation of Our History" on 18 and 19 November at its headquarters.

The event was attended by 45 students from Santa María la Antigua University and the University of Panama, and they were accompanied by teachers from the journalism race as well as more than 40 journalists from different media.

During the meeting, heritage and restoration experts addressed key issues such as strategic communication to attract audiences, graphic registration of heritage and construction of narratives that enrich our cultural heritage valuation.

The Minister of Culture, María Eugenia Herrera with his deputy Minister Arianne Benedetti welcomed them and congratulated journalists for their hard work and recognized their commitment to his profession and his valuable work in disseminating information.

The incumbent of Culture mentioned that "from the Ministry we reiterate our commitment to the protection and safeguard of our cultural heritage, because heritage is not only a testimony to our history but also a bridge that unites us as a nation and drives us to the future, conscious of our historic legacy and our identity of the Panamanian Being."

Mr. Samileth Stanziola, Director of Cultural Heritage, emphasized: "It's vital to raise public awareness about the importance of protecting the heritage. With these training, we seek journalists to be multiplier of this message."

Exhibitors included Rosmery García, a preventive curator of the National Cultural Heritage Directorate, Giovanna Ferrulo and Rogelio Adonican, an editor and news correspondent of the EFE and Eunice Baez, a communication specialist of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for Central America, Mexico and Colombia and inputs from Dr. Enrique Lopez-Hurtado, a cultural specialist of the Regional Office of the UNESCO for Central America, Mexico and Colombia.

The main aim of the activity was to strengthen links between the media and the preservation of the cultural heritage and to strengthen the role of the communicators as its proponents.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Culture, through its National Cultural Heritage Office and the Public Relations Office, in collaboration with the regional office of UNESCO.
