As part of its efforts to update, modernise and rehabilitate the Public Libraries Network, two Panamanian librarians were selected by the Ibero-American Programme of Public Libraries - Iberlibraries to participate in the 6th international internship 2024 under the motto "To design the future of public libraries: library personnel as a fundamental axis of library tomorrow." That activity will be held from 11 to 15 November in Purchena, Spain.

Barelis Herrera de Medina, Director of the Carlos L. López Public Library and Zuleidis Cortez, Assistant to the Héctor Conte Bermudez Public Library, both from the Villa of Los Santos, are the professionals who will represent Panama in this program of IBERBIBIOTECAS, to which the country became a party in 2021.

Katherine Bucktron, Director of Cultural Rights and Citizenship, noted that "it's important to update and promote libraries as free and democratic community spaces for information, knowledge and recreation."

He added that "from MiCultura, library services are being strengthened with workshops aimed at all age groups, designed to suit the needs of each community."

Currently, MiCultura manages 41 public libraries throughout the country and this internship forms part of the commitment to training and professionalizing its library personnel.

A total of 102 people have been enrolled for this internship, with 23 participants from different countries, including Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, Mexico and Peru.
