The 2024 Theater Festival, organized by the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura), celebrates diversity and innovation at theatrical level with a program that includes Homenages, dramatized reading and workshops in alternative, intimate and public performing spaces. The event will be held up to September 28 and will cover crucial issues such as gender equality, the inclusion of people with disabilities, Afro-descendants and native peoples.
In this edition, a committee of three specialists from the Panamanian theater have selected 10 works from among the 25 registered. The outstanding productions are: Tatado, All inclusive, Reversions, History Fairy, Bullying at the farm, The mystery of wandering stars, To the Black and the Chola, The pure purity of light, The divide: A meeting, Chimpocó y Hairy QueenThese works promise to offer an enriching experience to all theater lovers.
In addition, three proposals for dramatic reading have been elected from among eight candidates: From mangoes and apricots, When clowns no longer exist y The knot.
The festival will also offer four innovative workshops: Learning about my polarities through characters, Voice Workshop: Free text by releasing body, Action: The Input That Fold y Dramaturia: Vacuum leap.
The event will pay tribute to four outstanding figures from the Panamanian theater: Alfredo Arango, Anina Horta, Nuria Mateu and Raúl Reyes.
This year, the festival presents special events, including two international workshops: The Mutant Scene with Antonio Rojano of Spain and Susan Batson Acting Workshop directed by Arantxa de Juan. Also, the workshop will be held The Wife of the General: an experience with production and artistic creation in Central America with Jaime Newball.
The Festival will also have a special Kabuki Theater performance by Onoe Ukón on September 16 at the Balboa Theater, commemorating the 120 years of friendship between Panama and Japan.
The selected artists, groups and companies were elected through a public call by the National Directorate of the Arts of the Ministry of Culture.
