The Minister with responsibility for Culture, Gabriel González inaugurated the third Artesanal and Folk Festival of La Arena de Chitre, to be held up to March 17, 2024, at the 3 November place of La Arena, Chitre District, Herrera Province and with more than 40 local artisan participation.
González was the champion of this event and with Vivian Omara Palma Noriega, Queen of the festival, Julio Gómez Quintero, President of the Board of Trustees and local authorities, made the ribbon cut that marked the start of these festivities.
"From the Ministry of Culture we support every initiative and effort that works for mutual recognition and for sustainable development from traditions. Unite to traditions are the actions of the creative economy that allows them to be independent and strong as a region."
He added "many festivals are similar. The most important thing is how much each person tries to show his or her own characteristic characteristics of each region. Local identity attracts local visitors, tourists... and reminds them of the Chitrean, the Horrean, what are the characteristic features of La Arena. And these characteristics are in his or her dances, his or her music, his or his well-known gastronomy or his varied artisan sample, among many others."
For his part Julio Gómez Quintero, president of the Board of Trustees emphasized "During fair days, about 3, 500 visitors are expected to attend, as this activity is a display and a different choice that the artisan and entrepreneur has to present his products to his client and to support to improve the economy of the region."
"To us Aregeros this fair meeting is important, as we are a powerful people that we love to highlight culture traditions without neglecting our roots," added Quintero.
The festival will feature a parade of carts, folk and cultural presentations, murga, tuna, contest, crafts and entrepreneurship as well as other activities prepared for the delight of attendees and visiting public.
The Retirement of La Arena is famous for its beautiful works of pottery and ceramics prepared by local artisans who with care get up every day to work with their own businesses of sales of pots, dines, pits, tableware, tiles and reminders with vivid colors, among others.
