Today's president Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, with his Minister of Culture Giselle González Villarrué, inaugurated the City of the Arts, an integral space that will be the epicentre of art and culture and that, we estimate, will directly benefit about 20,000 people and 250,000 people every year.

"Today I have the privilege of giving to the Panamanian people his City of the Arts, the most important and most important work of cultural infrastructure in our country's history, that challenges and dignifies our people's extraordinary artistic talent," said the head of the executive.

President Cortizo Cohen added that this is an "impressive set of buildings that provides an enabling environment for the training activities of national artists, a study centre for those Panamanian people who engage in music, dance, theater and plastic arts."

Each building has been identified with the name of a representative artist in every discipline. Thus, that of Plastic Arts will be called "Alfredo Sinclair" and that of Teatro, José "Pepe" Sarsanedas and that of Music will be "Jaime Ingram" and that of Dance will honor Margot Fonteyn and that of Multifunctional Theater will have as its name Aurea "Baby" Torrijos.

For her part, Minister González Villarrué recalled that 82 years have passed so that the Symphony Orchestra will have a worthy place to rehearse and run and have occupied 13 headquarters during that period and that for the National Ballet they have spent 51 years at 19 different locations.

He added that with this work "we have fulfilled task No. 1 of the National Strategic Plan for Culture and have also fulfilled the mission of giving a home to the Impresa de la Nación and the Editorial Mariano Arosemena. Thus, the City of the Arts stands as a cultural torch and as a comfortable and accessible space for those who wish to immerse themselves in the wonderful world of the arts."

Both the President of the Republic and the Minister of Culture made a separate statement to remind Nelly Hirsch of Ingram, an outstanding recently deceased pianist who, through music, honored with his talent and teaching several generations of Panamanian musicians.

With an investment of B / .62.5 million, the Ministry of Culture puts at the disposal of the population this structure that consists of seven buildings. It has three auditorium and a multifunctional theater with capacity for 500 viewers. Also, spaces will be dedicated to the National Board of Writers and Writers of Panama, the National Printing and the Mariano Arosemena Editorial. It has an easy place of 350 parking spaces, cafeteria and auditoriums.

It will also host groups such as the National Ballet of Panama, the National Network of Orquestas and Children's and Youth Cores of Panama, the National Symphony Orchestra, the National Institute of Music (Conservatory) and the Galería de las Artes. Similarly, they have their space at the National School of Theater, the National School of Dance, the Youth School of Music and the National School of Plastic Arts.

The City of the Arts is located at 30 thousand square metres, 22 thousand of them from closed areas and 8 thousand outdoors and at the entrance of Llanos de Curundu, an Ancón correction.
