The Civil and Cultural Roadway program of the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura), focused on providing well-being and access to culture at all its artistic events, continues to extend its reach with an opportunity to lead older adults from the Ernesto Córdoba Campos correction of the North Panama area to a guided tour by the Palacio Bolívar and thus celebrate International Day of the Major Adult.
The visit with 30 participants was undertaken jointly with the Communal Board of Ernesto Córdoba Campos, who interested in this program decided to give an interesting experience to residents of his community, most of whom were first known to the Palacio Bolívar.
The guides of this iconic building that houses the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIRE) have been leading visitors to an encounter with colonial history, where they have met about the role of Simon Bolívar "the Liberator of America" to achieve a united American continent and an example of brotherhood among countries.
Sites such as the Hall of Anfictionic Congress, the Hall of Acts, the Pasillo of History of the Panama Canal and that of the Banderas have been greatly appreciated by visitors who have been using them to ask questions, to take photos and to make some other video as some say for "the box office."
Since 1991, the Organization of the United Nations (UN) has been promoting the celebration of International Day of Older Persons with the aim of enabling agencies and organisations, among other things, to conduct actions focused on enabling older people to stay far longer and have been active within society.
To this end, as a result of this need for public policies and programs that benefit older people, following the UN guidelines and supported by the General Law on Culture, MiCultura has been developing this program since June in partnership with the Ministry of Social Development and several communal boards.
To date, older adults from the Corridments of Betania, Rio Abajo, Calidonia Parque Lefevre, Ancón, Juan Díaz and now Ernesto Campos Córdoba have enjoyed museums, galleries, theatres, workshops and other activities that have benefitted about 140 older people.
