Panama and Mexico cooperate with important historic theme

A Mexican government mission composed of Santiago Mateos cibrian, in charge of businesses and Laura Beatriz Moreno, General Director of the Diplomatic Historical Acervo met with the Minister of Culture, Giselle González Villarrué to present progress with respect to historic research into the location, exhumation and repatriation of the remains of the Mexican procer, Catarino Erasmus Garza Rodriguez, who died in Panama on March 8, 1895, in the province of Bocas del Toro.

That presentation was the result of an exploration visit by the Government of Mexico in July of this year, through a sweep that was made to the Municipal cemetery of Bocas del Toro at Colón Island, with the aim of locating the polygons found in the different pits already identified.

Lineth Montenegro, National Director of Cultural Heritage referred to "that technical personnel from MiCultura, initiated earlier research since 2021 with the aim of locating the cemetery, where the mass grave where the bone remains of the Mexican procer are resting."
He explained "that this first analysis gave important research to the Mexican embassy that will give way to the Mexican government performing its excavations that lay at every mass grave found in the next few months."
For his part Santiago Mateos charged with the Mexican Embassy in Panama explained "that Catarino Erasmus Garza Rodriguez, a procer in search of revolutionary ideas and freedom, was a precursor to the Mexican revolution but also to Panamanian independence."

At the meeting participants propose to conduct excavations work for October or November this year.
