< strong > Four artists get the Roberto Lewis 2023 prize < / strong >

On Wednesday 6 September, at the Foyer of the National Theater, an award was awarded for the 43rd version of the Roberto Lewis National Visual Arts Competition organized annually by the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) through the National Section of The Arts.

The winners of this version were visual artists Pilar Moreno, Radamés Pinzzo, Esviles Jeffers Durruthy and Moab Ayarza Harris. The qualifying jury was composed of José Ignacio Roca Acosta, a long-term Colombian curator and performer at Lationamerica, Europa and Australi, and Tomas Javier Villa Fañe, a senior curator at the Buenos Aires Art Museum and María Lucía Alemán Márquez, executive director of the Contemporary Art Museum of Panama.

That year's Roberto Lewis's bases were modified to "bring him closer to international competition and to promote progress in the ecology of the visual arts sector."

Pilar Moreno was the winner of the $10,000 Grand Prix for "The Stylish Girl and Other Promotions," a work of "relational art." That work was presented in a book that shows a compilation of photographs in which people with a diagnosis of mental health, photographers and artists came together to express their emotions and give a voice to those who have it.

The remaining winners at this event will be awarded an amount of eight thousand dollars each. Also, they will be part of the 2023 exhibition of the works of Roberto Lewis with the fifteen works selected by the Jury. That exhibition will be held in October at the Juan Manuel Cedeño Audiovisual arts gallery at Las Bóvedas.

Since this competition began in 1980, it has been intended to promote the creation and quality of our plastic artists and to promote continuous cultural action that strengthens the legacy of Panamanian art.
