"Identity & Origin," an educational space to get to know Panama's indigenous culture.

The International Book Fair 2023 has a striking space, called "Identity and Origin," prepared by the Panamanian Book House with the contribution of the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura), where you can find information about all the indigenous nations of Panama and see some of its culture.

MiCultura, through the Intangible Cultural Heritage Department, contributed with the contents and photographs of the seven native peoples represented there by delegated assets designated by their authorities.

The Panamanian House of the book coordinated the accommodation and MiCultura's relocation of about 28 delegates from different indigenous territories and from those located in Panama City.

At the stand, each of the nations: Buglé, Gunadule, BriBri, Emberá, Wounaan, Naso and Ngäbe have their own space and display where you can talk with their delegations and see books, crafts and interesting contents of each indigenous people, their location, language, gastronomy of their intangible cultural heritage.

Carina Gamarra, from Naso Tjër Di, commented, "I feel grateful for the invitation as a town, to introduce what we have and offer. At this opportunity I brought crafts as yarn baskets, seed jewelry, spears and traditional plates that were used earlier.

For his part, Rolando Marín, from Bribrí's territory, stated that "our participation at this fair is with the intention of identifying us as indigenous, as native people, so that the Panamanian and international community will know us, that we have another language and that we exist."

To pay tribute to these peoples, MiCultura, with the Cultural Programme team of the fair, organized a variety of cultural activities with the participation of representatives of native peoples: convertiums of cosmovision, languages, ancestral games, body painting, traditional dances, storyteller's, book presentations, meetings with an oral tradition and so forth.
