< strong > Interinstitutional Committee prepares to convert the TransEstados Civil Route into World Heritage < / strong >

The Minister of Culture, Giselle González Villarrué, participated in the technical meeting of the inter-agency management system for the management of the well-being that forms The Transitory Colonial Route of Panama (RCT), adopted in December 2022.

At this meeting, the projects were submitted by each of the members of the inter-institutional committee that make up the Road.To be prepared and coordinate everything related to the first assessment visit, by specialists from the International Council of Monuments and Sites (Icomos), to be held in the next few months as a first phase, to achieve the nomination to the UNESCO of the TransEstados Civil Route.

That inter-institutional system includes the Ministries of the President, Foreign Affairs, Culture and the Environment as well as the Panama Canal Authority, Panama Tourism Authority and the municipalities of Panama, Colón and Portobelo.

Also, they are part of the management agencies of the locations that make up the TransStmal Colonial Route, the patterns of Portobelo, San Lorenzo, archaeological sites of Old Panama and the office of Casco Antiguo of Panama.

"UNESCO's technicians, who will be visiting Panama in the next few months, during their stay, will evaluate how the Panamanian state and authorities plan to preserve and give this outstanding value to the sites that are within this first phase," stated Linkh Montenegro, National Director of Cultural Heritage.

"To that end, meetings will be held with managers and members who will propose the project, followed by tours and field events," added Montenegro.

He explained that the proposal currently lies in the process of evaluation and nomination includes, in the first phase, the Transistmic Colonial Route, San Lorenzo Castle, the Cross Way, Casco Antiguo and Old Panama's Archaeological Site.
