< strong > DIABLES FROM THE CHORRERA INDIVIDUAL TO INDIVIDUAL CORPUS CHRIST IN THE CASCO < / strong >

More than twenty devils from the group of Folkloric Danzas Mami Chacón de La Chorro have obtained permission from the Angel St. Michael, to enter the Basilica Cathedral Santa María la Antigua, Prima de Tierra Firme, as part of the representation of the Corpus Christi that organized the Archdiocese of Panama with the support of the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura).

The performance began on Saturday June 17th from 9: 00 p.m. with the production of a 20-foot long carpet, made with petals and salt from the creation of Euclides Zambrano and prepared by members of the group of chorro dances, and at which, once complete, an image of a great chalk could be seen about the Cathedral Church as a symbol of communion.

On Sunday June 18, coinciding with the celebration of the Father's Day, the Eucharist was held in honor of the "Body and Blood of Christ" that was presided over by Bishop Rino Fiscichella, Proprefect of the Dicastery for evangelization, who during his homily recognized the importance of the celebration as "the offering of Christ at the Last Supper, representing an action of his own sacrifice, as a symbol of love for all."

During the celebration, devils could be appreciated at the altar's knees, surrender to the Most Holy One, thus demonstrating his immense love for God, his capacity to forgive the sinner and above all his triumph of good about evil, this ritual was of the admiration of those who were within the Basilica.

"The meaning of a party like this is to celebrate that goodness of God, where we have to take as an example practice brotherhood, tolerance, and at the same time with the presence of the danzants we are promoting religious cultural tourism, where we have seen an excellent organization from the production of the carpet, to what has been given during mass and procession," expressed the Minister of Culture, Giselle González Villarrué.

Additional to this Intangible Heritage demonstration, the Casco Antiguo Crafts Market was developed, with artisan and exhibitors from the "Taste of the Barrio" project offering their best products to nationals and foreigners who visited the Plaza de la Independencia and were part of the Corpus celebration and that was complemented with artistic performances such as gunas dances and Arraijan Peasant Pride Folkloric Projections.

The event concluded with a procession with the children who had their first communion during the Eucharist, the Herberto López Music Band of the José Daniel Crespo College of Chitre and the devils of Mami Chacón.
