Following the Plan of Action in the Cultural Area, President Laurentino Cortizo Cohen and Minister of Culture Giselle González Villarrué have launched a project to restore the Royal Castle of San with an estimated cost of 4.9 million pits.

The San Lorenzo fort was declared by the UNESCO as an endangered property in 2012 and was decided to face a project to rescue and preserve this site as a historic monument and that was one of the challenges of the National Government's Tourist Cabinet.

Through this project that was financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (BID), the National Government aims to strengthen the national network of museums and historic heritage.

The restoration process generated about 30 months of direct jobs, most of them from Colón Province and with a component of women trained in restoration.

With the restoration of Fort San Lorenzo, we promote tourism and have a cultural impact as represented by the history of Fort San Lorenzo since colonial times.

The project included maintenance work at a part of the walls of the fortress, with the fringes of the moon, the counterwall of the playground and other sectors.

The focused studies, design, approval and emergency works and the North Barley of the Hornabeque were also performed while phase 3 involved the conduct of studies, design, approval and works for the empowerment of a museum at three of the fortress's vaults and with construction work of rain drains in the arms yard.
