The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura), to start the "Miró Week," has released to the winners of version 80 of the Ricardo Miró 2022 National Literature Competition, where each winner will get $15,000.

The works selected and their authors were: Dimitrios Gianareas Gil with "500 km" in the count category, Rogelio Guerra Ávila with "La Miscelánea" in the novel genus, Héctor Rodriguez Cedeño with "El ponque de Narcissuo (The Simpsons and the posculture)" to get his essay category.

While Roberto Darius Thomas with the title "An Elephant in the Room" and Javier Medina Bernal with the manuscript "Kein Narr" have been given an appreciation to be selected in the genres of theater and poetry respectively.

For the 80th anniversary of this contest about 216 literary proposals were received distributed as follows 80 registered for poetry, 51 works received in tale, 40 texts to participate in novel, 28 were submitted for the stage category and with 17 proposals closed the essay section.

The manuscripts put forward were valued by well-known personalities from the Panamanian letters and also by internation writers. The literature that represented Panama includes Consuelo Tomas Fitzgerald, David Robinson, Rogelio Rodriguez Coronel, Rafael Pernett and Javier Stanziola.

Meanwhile, the delegation of foreign writers was composed of Jorge Franco, Clara Inés Ariza, Cristina Bendek de Colombia, Rodrigo Fuentes, Guatemala, Héctor Feliciano, Puerto Rico, Ana Rivor, Uruguay, Zuleica Romay, Cuba, Pedro López Adorno, Puerto Rico, Frank Baez, Dominican Republic and Patricia Suárez, Argentina.

"We congratulate this year's winners and those who have been not chosen to continue to participate, in this great contest the most old of the country, because the aim of the contest is to promote literary creation and leave a legacy of excellent works," remarked Isabel Burgos, National Director of The Arts of MiCultura at the opening of pics.

Burgos reiterated his gratitude to the jurors for their time dedicated to the critical reading of these works, some very good and some that can be improved, but it's gratifying that they have concluded that there's quite good writing in Panama and to know that they have known more about our history.

He emphasized the fact that the results have shown that all winners are men and encouraged the ladies to keep them from writing.

The award ceremony will be held at the National Theater on Friday, October 21, but earlier MiCultura invites literature lovers to participate during Miró week from discussions and workshops with international jurors that will be free and will be held in different spaces.
