Programme of play and recreational activities for persons with disabilities

A number of activities are undertaken as part of the project to gain access to culture for the disabled and their families and a day to develop artistic bodily expressions in children under the Autism program, with partnership with the Panamanian Institute for Special Habitation (IPHE) and the Cultural Rights and Citizenship of the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura).
That initiative will be implemented for a period of four months with the aim of guaranteeing and promoting the right of persons with disabilities to have access to the artistic and cultural programs that MiCultura offers and that will include tours to museums such as History, Afro-Antillane, Contemporary and Mola Art and others.
The project will cover the population participating in the different programs with which IHE has benefits about 180 people with hearing, visual and physical disabilities.
The trainers charged with leading young people to enjoy artistic expressions such as dance and folklore are teachers at the MiCultura Metropolitan Cultural Center, who once a week will be attending to those who have been considered for the project.
Amileth González, head of the Office of Equal Opportunities at IHE, explained "that law 15 lays down that children with disabilities have the right to be a part of cultural life in society and that this co-ordination with MiCultura is precisely for them to have that approach with the issue of culture, that they can get to know about museums and have that access to culture."
For his part, Maricarchen from Saavedra, mother of Ezekiel Saavedra, seven years old and as part of the IHE's autism program, expressed that "his workshop found interesting, because his dance training trainers put him at the service of these children who most need him, because these kinds of classes help them to control themselves and also for us as parents, help them with that task."
