The National Danzas School is currently 74 years old and currently meeting the cultural and humanistic needs of the child and adolescent population, through the teaching of danzas at its various events and the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) is preparing a number of activities to celebrate this date.

Since 1948, while the First Lady of the Republic of that time, Cecilia Pinel de Remón has been thinking about the idea of officially setting up the National School of Dances, she has been approved at the National Assembly by Decree Law No. 39 of 8 September 1953, formalizing artistic education under the Cultural Section of the Ministry of Education.

Nevertheless, his story indicates that the first manifestations of dance in Panama were with the arrival at the Isthmus of Gladis Pontón de Heurtematte in 1935, who advanced the first classes of teaching and learning of classical dance in the country.

In 1974, as the National Institute of Culture (INAC) was established, the teaching of dance became part of the newly established institution and became a seedling place for dancers, teachers, choreographers and dance art lovers.

Later, with the creation of the Ministry of Culture in 2019, the National School of Dances became a part of the new entity with the aim of strengthening the development of artistic skills, an expression that enables them as interpreters of the Folkloric Dance, Modern Dance and Classic Dance.

In its transformation and through these 74 years, the School of Dances offers academic training as an advanced technical training at Classical Ballet, an advanced technical training at Modern Dance and General and Basic Studies at Ballet and Modern Dance.

The National School of Dances of MiCultura currently run by the Panamanian dance professional, the Magister Iguandili López Smith and is located at Building 5553 in Ancón.
