Entities Roadmap for Information Access Activities for Indigenous Communities

Access to information was a fundamental right and should be covered by every public policy action and, as part of the international decade of indigenous languages, the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) had been added through its co-ordination as an Intangible Cultural Heritage to the Seminar with access to information, indigenous peoples and sustainable development.
That activity takes place jointly with other entities such as the Government Innovation Authority (ANTAI), the Tourism Authority (ATP), the Ministry of Government (MINGOB) under the training of the UNESCO to generate actions that guarantee this right within the communities.
The Mingob's National Hall at the event was attended by the Minister of Culture, Giselle González Villarrué, who, while addressing the young representatives of 12 indigenous congresses at his place, expressed that "my affection and respect for that youth of the indigenous communities that have come a long way to get here today. I know that it was not easy!
"Some have been pounding up every day to get a sign. What a testimony of will and how strong examples we have of challenges we have as a country to close gaps, to offer more access to information, connectivity, education and communication both in Spanish and in each of their native languages," added González Villarrué.
Similarly, the Director of the Multicountry Office of the UNESCO, Alexander Leitch, recognized that progress has been made with public policies to this group but that much remains to be done with respect to implementation and that this event will come up with some recommendations to support indigenous peoples.
The session began with the panel "Access to information, opportunities, challenges or needs of indigenous peoples to promote sustainable development," with the participation of Marbellina Oller of the Mingob's Office of Indigenous Affairs, Emma Gomez, coordinator of Cultural Intangible Heritage at MiCultura, Nelly Aedo Roeda, head of the Peru People's Indigenous Peoples Programme and Deici Guainora, researcher at the Research Center for Indigenous Peoples's Education (CIEPI), Special University of the Americas, who discussed education for sustainable development.
